Have you ever wondered how to start a blog? Stop what you are doing right now and follow these three easy steps to get your blog up and running in about 20 minutes! I cannot express how much blogging has changed my life in an amazing way. Blogging has opened doors for me and changed my life for the better. In fact, I quit my corporate job three years ago to pursue my online store and blogging as a career.

This tutorial is going to walk you through the steps to register your own domain name and install WordPress. I love WordPress! Our site runs on WordPress. I’ve used a lot of blogging platforms. I’ve found WordPress is the easiest to use and offers the most customization. WordPress isn’t just for blogging. We even run used to run our online store on WordPress!

How to start a blog - get your blog up and running in 20 minutes!

The three steps to starting a blog:

  1. Set up domain name and hosting
  2. Install WordPress
  3. Make your blog look pretty

1. SET UP DOMAIN NAME AND HOSTING

What do you want your blog to be called? Brain storm right now and come up with a name. Our domain name is chicfetti.com. Do you have some ideas? Good! Now go to BlueHost to see if your domain name is available.

When you are asked to pick a plan, I suggest the starter plan. This plan will work for you since you are just starting out. As your blog grows, you can always increase your plan later.how-to-start-a-blog-2

Then type your domain name into a box that looks like this:how-to-start-a-blog-3

Your domain will need to be hosted. Hosting is basically rented space. BlueHost has really great hosting rates. Plus, they give you your domain name for free! I would suggest also choosing Whois privacy which will guard your address and phone number from being displayed publicly.

2. INSTALL WORDPRESS

BlueHost makes installing WordPress a breeze. Once you’ve completed the registration, Login to Bluehost and find the ‘Website Builders’ section. Click on the WordPress logo.how-to-start-a-blog-4

On the next page click the install button under the ‘Do it Yourself (Free)’ section.how-to-start-a-blog-5
