One question that I get asked often is how to upload SVG files to Silhouette Studio. We offer many free SVG files on our site for you to use in your crafty creations with your Silhouette Cameo. In this post I will walk you through how to import SVG files into Silhouette Studio.
The first thing you need to know is that you cannot upload SVG files to the version of Silhouette Studio that is included with the machine purchase. You will need to purchase Silhouette Studio Designer Edition in order to upload SVG files. This is the one thing that confuses people when they are trying to import SVG files. Silhouette does have different versions of the software. Most users don’t know they need an different version of the software to import SVG files.
Download the SVG File
If you are using the free SVG files on our site, then you will first need to download the file. Go to the SVG file that you want to download, right click on the download button and choose save file as (download linked file as on a Mac) to save the file down to your computer.
Import the SVG File
Open Silhouette Studio Designer Edition. Go to file on the tool bar then down to library then choose import to library.
When your computer’s file manager opens up, find the file from where you saved it on your computer and choose the file to import it.
The file will import and show up in your library.
That’s it! It’s super easy to import files once you have the right edition of the software. Once the SVG files are in your library, they will stay there so that you don’t have to keep importing them to use them for future projects.
